Saturday, August 12th we made our way north from the Cape to Gloucester Harbor. It was a beautiful day to travel by sea. We really enjoyed our journey, about 20 miles offshore. Not much company out there, except for hundreds of lobster pots!
We arrived in to Gloucester Harbor in the late afternoon. What a beautiful site to see, this very old town with so many memories. Bob’s sister Janet took the launch out to join us for Saturday evening, on the mooring ball, in the inner harbor. This was her first time on Robes and we were so excited to have her aboard.
Sunday morning we left the harbor and headed north to Annisquam. Another beautiful day to travel around Cape Ann. It is truly breathtaking to see this part of the country from the ocean. The land, the rocks, the homes, the lighthouses… wow! We hope all of you have the chance, and take it, to see the beautiful New England coast.
Coming into Annisquam, our most northern point of this years trip, was emotional on many levels. This place has been part of Bob and his family for so many years and it has always been his dream to arrive here aboard his own boat.
We spent a week moored in front of the Annisquam Yacht Club and boy was it lovely to spend this time with Bob’s sister Janet and the entire Ware family. Monday we had Janet’s birthday lunch on our back porch. Tuesday, Janet and Dwight took us to the Cape Ann Museum to see the Edward Hopper Exhibit. Wow, we are still in awe and cannot believe we were so lucky to be able to see, in person, his work and the work of his wife Josephine. The four of us followed up the gallery day with a very tasty lunch at the Beauport Hotel, bringing back great memories of the weekend spent there in October before our wedding day. We welcomed so many aboard throughout the week… Janet and Dwight, Liz and John, Tyler and young Dwight, Chase, his girlfriend Gwen and his two friends, the Duffy’s and their friend Scott from Wilton, CT, Elliot and Tricia Pratt and Grace and Harrison! G and H took the train up from Boston and spent the day and night Saturday. We had the best last evening with them and Janet and Tyler on board. A late evening walk at the Wingaersheek Beach sand bar capped it all off.

Our Saturday evening on Wingaersheek Beach, gorgeous night!
Sunday morning we left Annisquam and headed south to Boston. It was so exciting to have Grace and Harrison make this ride with us and to be able to give them a ride home! We spent a couple days in beautiful Bean Town. Rode our bikes from our marina in Charlestown to the Esplanade on a gorgeous Sunday evening. Charlestown is another lovely spot that has changed so much over the years. It is a thriving extension of downtown Boston. Monday was spent with George at the emergency vet, a five hour adventure. Harrison and Grace lent us their car, which was a blessing. We were able to have him seen by a canine ophthalmologist and got some reassurance. George’s eye is still vulnerable, but it is healing, so we were told to stay the course. That evening, we put our folding bikes in the car and returned it to its parking garage on Boylston Street. Rode the few blocks to G and H’s place and met them and their dog Cooper for a short walk around the Back Bay. Tearful goodbyes and then rode to Beacon Hill for a lovely dinner at The Paramount. The ride back to Charlestown was in a surprise pop-up rainstorm 😉
Tuesday had some decent swell off the coast, so we decided to spend another night in Boston (twist our arms). On Wednesday morning, we cast off for points south. We’re hoping to make it through the Cape Cod Canal today and anchor somewhere in the northern part of Buzzard’s Bay.
That’s it for now. Hope everyone is enjoying there last days of Summer 2023. Talk soon!
These are all such lovely pictures. I enjoy so many of the posts with the different views and perspectives and friends/family you are fortunate enough to share the journey! Thank you for posting!
