Hi All, we hope you had a great Labor Day! We spent Monday on an eleven hour journey from Atlantic Highlands, NJ to Atlantic City. It was a long day, leaving just before sunrise. But the Atlantic Ocean was calm and it was a beautiful cruise down the Jersey coast. We spent the night at an anchorage just out from the Coast Guard Station, the Golden Nugget and Harrah’s casinos. It was an unusually loud Monday evening as folks were clearly still celebrating well into the wee hours. Maybe they’re always celebrating into the wee hours in a casino town. Atlantic City is odd to see with giant casinos and thousands of hotel rooms springing up out of the beach marshland. We cannot say we are eager to return.
Leaving Atlantic Highlands, NJ
Tuesday we pulled up anchor early in the morning and continued south to Cape May. And gosh were we so happy to get to Utsch’s Marina. A family owned business that is definitely on our return list, very good people running the show there. Cape May, NJ is somewhere we both had never been to and what a welcome change from Atlantic City. It’s a lovely old beach town, with some of the most beautiful Victorian homes we have ever seen. It was quintessential coastal Americana at its best.
Wednesday morning we left Cape May and entered the Delaware Bay heading north to Delaware City, DE and the entrance to the Chesapeake Delaware Canal. We did a quick overnight in Delaware City before heading into the Canal on Thursday for the short trip to Chesapeake City, MD. Chesapeake City is yet another adorable small town with shops and restaurants and a brewery, Bayheads Brewing Company. Good luck Charlie on your endeavor, you make great beer! We closed out Thursday evening meeting Mike and Bonnie (Wild Rover) for “boat tails” at the Tiki Bar. We met Mike and Bonnie while leaving Delaware City and then saw them again in Chesapeake City. This is the beauty of boating, being able to meet folks like ourselves who share a love for the boating life. We were grateful for their advice on stops in the Chesapeake Bay where we plan to spend the next two weeks.
Today, Friday, we headed out of the C & D Canal and into the Chesapeake Bay. We are so very excited to spend a couple relaxing weeks in this beautiful area. We took a left and headed up the Sassafras River to Georgetown, MD for a few days. Cheers to a great weekend everyone!
Love the picture of both of you as well as the pictures from Cape May. The beautiful Victorian homes look funny when juxtaposed against the casinos.
