Thursday we traveled from Medina to Spencerport, NY. No locks but quite a few lift bridges. We ended our 33 mile day in the most beautiful little town, Spencerport, NY. We feel this is our most favorite spot so far! We tied up on the North Side just east of the Lift Bridge. The attention to detail and up keep of this little overnight was impeccable. We can’t rave enough about the landscaping, memorial tributes, the upkeep of the bridge built in 1914 and the thriving town itself. We had live music from the restaurant across the canal for dinner on our back porch. After dinner we took a walk across the lift bridge and down Main Street and stumbled upon Vic’s Ice Cream, magnificent on two levels… first the ice cream was excellent (soft serve vanilla for Julie, soft serve twist for Bob, a vanilla pup cup for G) and second, the name, Vic’s 🙂 A huge thunderstorm moved in around 9pm, but Robes was safely tied to the dock and handled the storm quite well.
Friday morning we cast off our lines and headed east. We passed through Lock #33 Rochester, Lock #32 Pittsford (movie below), Lock #30 Macedon and Lock #29 Palmyra and a lift bridge at Fairport today. The second lock it started pouring rain exactly as we entered, but all good Julie had her rain coat! We passed about four 8 man shells near Pittsford, reminding Bob of his days rowing for Cornell. A long travel day of 45 miles and happily arrived at the wall in Newark, NY MM 226. Live Music again from our back porch this Friday evening, shout out to the Roll the Dice Band!
Many have been asking about our proposed route, here it is, subject to change lolll
Tomorrow’s day is yet to be determined… stay tuned!
