We have had a stress free couple of days traveling from Newark to Baldwinsville, across Oneida Lake and landing at the entrance to Lock 22 near Sylvan Beach. In these two days we have passed through seven locks and our first “up” lock at Brewerton.
We started out Saturday morning on our 54 mile day going through Lock 28B Newark; had a minor incident with a random large screw that we brushed against on the wall and it blew out one of our fender balls. This was really just bad luck on our part, but we will need to replace this ball which is a bummer. We proceeded through Lock 28A and Lock 27 at Lyons. Then on to Lock 26 Clyde and Lock 25 Mays Point (beautiful lock, pic below). At MM 201 we passed Canal Junction where, IF we had been able to leave in June, we would have popped down Cayuga Lake to see Cornell up on the hill. BUT we had to continue on the Canal and ended our day at a lovely tie wall just before the Baldwinsville Lock. We had a quiet night, walked into town, ate at Sam Miguels on the Canal and stopped at Dollar Tree on the way home for a few supplies.
Sunday morning, we untied and proceeded through Lock 24. Beautiful weather today along the canal for our 48 mile ride. We stopped at Ess-Kay Yards in Brewerton for gas, diesel was really cheap here so we topped off our starboard tank. They also had the fender ball we needed, so we picked up two. Just past Brewerton is Oneida Lake, 20 miles across and it was a gorgeous ride on a sunny Sunday.
We had planned to tie to a wall at the opposite end of the lake at Sylvan Beach but wowsa, soooo crowded with boats and partiers, no where for us to go! We proceeded five miles down the Canal to the wall right in front of Lock 22. We are so happy here, it is a magic spot and we are all alone here for the night 🙂 We have no shore power but that is alright because we have our battery system that was installed this Winter, and we are good for the night, even have air conditioning.
Tomorrow, Monday, we will pass through Lock 22 and Lock21 which are the last of the “up” locks for us. We plan to make it to Ilion, NY and stay for the evening where we are hoping to do laundry and give George a bath at the showers lolllll
Happy Sunday evening everyone!
Love the updates. Thanks
